Hands-On Learning

Recently, our 5th graders experienced a unique opportunity to assemble Kano laptops with the guidance of our Technology Department during Science class. The Kano computer is a Windows powered device geared towards children as the first step in learning to code. Prior to assembly, students participated in an online safety session with their technology teacher, Mrs. Siegler. Students learned about each component and built their own devices. These students can now continue to use these computers for exciting new projects!

This is a unique opportunity to learn first-hand what a computer is made of and enhances students’ design-thinking and creative, problem-solving skills.  The next lesson will be to set-up Wifi access and learn how to save/access files since everything on the Kano will be cloud based.

We continue to provide cutting-edge educational programming that is founded in current research and embeds 21st-century skills and Habits of Mind into the curriculum. We want to ensure we are preparing your children to be critical and creative thinkers who are fully engaged in learning. Cushman students are confident, innovative individuals making a difference in their communities and beyond.
