The Cushman School’s Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff came together to envision and enliven the design for a new space where children in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade could come together to play and learn. The Play to Learn Performing Arts and Athletic Center will be a place to live out Dr. Cushman’s legacy of promoting the expansion of children’s imagination while engaging in the performing arts through song, dance and acting and participating in athletic activities.
After a lot of work and commitment from Cushman’s Board of Trustees, in early September, BDI Construction broke ground on Play to Learn, and our shared dream is becoming a reality for our school community!
“With the creation of Play to Learn we are fulfilling Dr. Cushman’s aims of enlivening the arts and athletics in all aspects of school life and helping our children to discover their potential,” said Dr. Arvi Balseiro, Head of School.
As Cushman looks to the future, the Play to Learn facility will be instrumental for the students’ personal growth and sustainability of the School. As a space for creative play, organized sports, and artistic outlets, children’s experiences will lead them to developing passions that will enrich their lives.
Slated to be completed by late 2021, the two-story facility will include rooftop soccer and track field, an indoor gymnasium, a stage and performing arts center, a dance studio, and music classrooms. This new Performing Arts & Athletic Center will provide an enhanced platform leading student to showcase their many talents, and spark joy in our hearts through memorable performances, games, and artistic activities.
“This project would not be commencing today without the support and dedication of the Board of Trustees, both past and present, our faculty, staff and administration, alumni, families and the leadership of our Head of School,” said Sara Colombo Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “Each has believed that Cushman students will benefit for decades to come with the completion of this facility. Play to Learn will further our School’s mission and philosophy, and provide us with the important, air-conditioned space your children need as they Play to Learn!”
