We are so proud of the determination, dedication, and character of our Cushman alumna Sarah Newberry Moore! Sarah was on campus today speaking with Cushman students about how she gained so much inspiration to pursue her passions through her Cushman education. She spoke about the importance of following your dreams, even if you have self-doubts, while living in the present moment and staying focused on what needs to be achieved today. With many of our students actively participating in sailing outside of Cushman, it was a pleasure to have Sarah on campus and hear her motivating words.
From a recent US Sailing news release:
LA GRANDE MOTTE, FRANCE (13 May 2024) – Sarah Newberry Moore (Miami, FL) and David Liebenberg (Richmond, CA) won athlete selection at the 2024 Nacra 17 World Championship and have secured their spot to represent the United States this summer at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the Nacra 17. The pair qualified the US as a country at the Pan American Games in Chile on November 3, 2023, and completed their final step by winning their athlete selection process this week in France.
“Finally winning the Olympic Trials on my third campaign feels overwhelming,” said US Sailing Team’s Newberry Moore. “I am relieved and grateful. I’m proud to show my son that his mama is fast, strong, and was willing to work 10 hard years to earn the honor of representing the USA at the Olympics.”
Sarah Newberry Moore’s journey to the 2024 Olympics is a testament to the power of perseverance and the strength of character and values that are deeply ingrained in Cushman School’s educational philosophy. From her early days as a passionate young sailor and talented artist to her recent triumph at the Olympic Trials, Sarah’s story is one of unwavering commitment and relentless pursuit of excellence.
We remember when Sarah spoke about her love of sailing and her dream to make it to the Olympics during her two TEDxYouthMiami talks in 2011 and 2014. Sarah is such a perfect example of how dedication, commitment, and teamwork prevail. You can watch her inspiring talks here and here.
The Cushman School has enjoyed watching Sarah excel over the years in sailing and in life. Not only has she attained this incredible athletic accomplishment, but she has also balanced this with being a supportive wife and amazing mother. Her journey underscores the comprehensive education and character-building that Cushman provides, preparing students to face challenges head-on, whether in sports, academics, or life.
Sarah’s achievements on the global stage reflect the enduring spirit of Cushman alumni and the profound impact that a Cushman education can have. We are incredibly proud of Sarah and look forward to cheering her on as she represents the USA at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
