With many students across the country transitioning to distance learning, Cushman’s High School students recognized the need for online tutoring sessions to support many of the younger learners. A team comprised of Cushman faculty and its Student Government Association members launched a Cushman Digital Tutoring program that supported its primary students on the main campus and gave the high school students an opportunity to connect with pre-K through 5th-grade student-members of the Cushman family. The benefits were many: academic, social-emotional and financial for many families.
This initiative was a result of Cushman High School’s Society and Me (SAM) curriculum that consistently challenges its high school students to identify needs in the community and develop effective solutions in which students can deliver. This successful program began in March 2020 and will continue into the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. With many communities being challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, this is another example of how Cushman students rise to the occasion, develop relevant solutions and care for one another.
