Dear Cushman Community,
Several summers ago while serving as Cushman’s Primary School Director, I sat with a prospective parent who was eager to enroll her daughter, Natalia, for the fall of that upcoming school year. From the moment I met her, there was a mutual ease in communication and a natural connection was made. This prospective parent told me confidently that she wanted Cushman to become a home for her children and that when her son Nicolas was old enough, he would come too. She shared that Cushman was the place she knew would provide them with the love, care and education that were her and her husband Fernando’s top priority. “You see”, the parent told me, “I am dying and I want to know that they are taken care of. I always wanted to be an actress and I love the arts. I know you will give that to my daughter.” That dear, loving parent was Maria Krasovitzky who passed April 9, 2013. I know that we all continue to hold Maria in our hearts today.
Several months before Maria lost the physical battle to cancer, she met with us and shared that she’d like to have an event to raise the funds to build a Performing Arts Center at Cushman. Her passion for the arts and love for her children became the driving force behind our first annual Viva La Vida walk which was led by Maria and Fernando Krasovitzky on February 9, 2013. More than 350 people dressed in white and in celebration of life attended and over $75,000 was raised and earmarked for the Performing Arts Center.
On February 1, 2014, in honor of Maria Krasovitzky, we will have our second annual Viva La Vida Walk. This symbolic walk will take the shape of a heart surrounding the Elementary School that will be outlined in flower pedals. With each contribution, one will receive a special t-shirt. With your love and support, we will enliven Maria’s wish and dream so it does become a reality for her and each of your children. I hope you can join us. The Viva la Vida Walk
