Step into the Artistic World: Explore The Cushman School Gallery Walk

Each year, we invite our families to step into the vibrant and awe-inspiring world of ART at the annual Gallery Walk. This past January 26th, our School held its annual event that showcases artwork and creative projects from all its students in Pre-K through High School. As a wonderful start to the New Year, the historic campus (located at 60th and Biscayne) is transformed into an outdoor art gallery for the entire school community to enjoy.

Director of Visual Arts Susan Silver and Art Teacher Ada Duffy lead this much-anticipated celebration of the Arts, which is designed to highlight how Cushman comprehensively incorporates visual arts and creative design-thinking into its curriculum.

From stunning paintings and sculptures to intricate ceramics and thought-provoking photographs, every piece on display tells a story and invites you to delve deeper into the artist’s perspective.

“The exhibits were SENSATIONAL, INNOVATIVE AND MEANINGFUL!  The integration of art into aspects of the curriculum and across our wonderful Pre-K through High School programming was seamlessly done.” – Dr. Arvi Balseiro, Head of School

History of The Cushman School Gallery Walk

The Gallery Walk is a beloved school tradition that has been celebrated over the decades and has become a platform for students to showcase their artistic prowess and gain recognition for their hard work. It provides a valuable opportunity for them to develop their skills, experiment with different mediums, and express themselves creatively.

The success of the School’s Gallery Walk can be attributed to the dedication and passion of not only the Visual Arts Team but the entire faculty’s commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for all students to explore and express themselves creatively in various lessons.

The unique experience of the Gallery Walk

The atmosphere at The Cushman School Gallery Walk is one of excitement and curiosity, with our students and families eagerly exploring each exhibit and engaging with the incredible work showcased around campus.

Ranging from beautiful sunflower paintings by the youngest artists in the nursery to STEAM innovations and video productions from upper school students, the overall presentation gives Art Basel some neighborly competition! Music from the steel pan performers and singing from the Voices of Cushman and Half Notes has kicked off past events. The combination of visual and performing arts creates a dynamic and multi-sensory experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

The Significance of the Gallery Walk

The Cushman School Gallery Walk stands as a testament to the power of art to inspire, transform, and bring our school community together. The event not only celebrates the creativity and imagination of its participants but also fosters a greater appreciation for the Arts overall.

While this day is set aside to honor the Arts, it is only a snapshot that visibly reflects the intention and time The Cushman School places on ensuring music, creative expression, and inclusive collaborative projects are integral parts of the Cushman experience.
