Cheers Shore Up School Spirit
When it comes to spirit and sports, no school can be complete without cheerleaders. Cushman has had a cheerleading squad for 9 years, but this year the group is one of the largest with 14 girls (grades 5 to 7).

This month, forty-five 1st grade students will recite 100 words from memory in front of a crowd of their peers, parents and teachers. First Grade Oratory, an integral part of the Cushman experience, marks each student's ascension to the next stage of his or her academic career.

This month The Cushman School hosted an event on the future of education. Leading voices joined our call for a national school system that emphasizes innovation and creativity along with civic virtues and global responsibility. With your support, we will continue to be on the forefront of educating children.

Among the half-dozen Middle School elective classes offered this fall, just two students chose Introduction to World Religions and Cultures. "Under normal circumstances I might have cancelled the class," said Middle School Director Jennifer Geimer, "but these kids were special."

It is my pleasure to introduce a new monthly publication. The goal of this e-newsletter is to provide a vehicle in which to share the often unrecorded stories that typify the Cushman experience. It is our belief that by highlighting these stories, we will strengthen and enrich our diverse community. The Yellow Rose, and its long time association with happiness, is the perfect name for this endeavor. It is said that no other flower is able to bring out a smile in quite this way and it was the favorite flower of Laura Cushman. Enjoy!
