Dear Families,

Welcome to the Cushman Primary School’s web presence!   Building All Kinds of Minds is our expertise and our goal of ensuring each developmental learning experience becomes an integral contribution toward the development of your ’whole’ child is our priority. Cushman’s philosophy is founded in the understanding that each child has his or her own unique blend of intelligences and it is our task as masterful educators to unlock each child’s potential.  Moreover, this year, we will specifically spend additional time on the development of your child’s disciplined, synthesizing, and creative minds which deal with cognitive capacities as well as their respectful and ethical minds that lead them to being positive contributors to society and simply good people.

Our multiage program for students through age five provides them with a safe place for discovery in which to build their social, emotional, physical and intellectual foundations. In our warm, nurturing classrooms, it is exciting to see our older children relate to and teach the younger ones.  Research shows that the highest level of understanding is demonstrated by teaching others!   For the younger children, they have peers that serve as models of natural instruction as they learn how to communicate, play and learn appropriately. The first grade students are placed in single-age classrooms where they can apply their strong foundation acquired as they continue to move from the phase of learning to read to reading to learn. The continuation of the first grade use of Smartboard and iMac technology will enhance students’ learning experiences and use of software will complement our program and support us in enabling students to progress at their own rates.

We have a highly skilled faculty and staff who will facilitate the academic and social/emotional learning process by engaging the children in meaningful activity where they will experience the outcome of their choices. Whether they are working on academic math skills through the Cuisenaire rods, Singapore Math or building with blocks, acquiring oral or written language skills, dressing up, painting and engaging in other artistic endeavors, Cushman Primary children will develop holistically.  And, in preparation for an ever-changing world, we set the foundation needed for students to think and respond critically, responsibly, and creatively with confidence and poise.   Most importantly, we strive to develop students who are responsible, caring young people who can make positive choices for their own lives and contribute to making their homes, school, community and world a better place.
